Invensys Improves Interface for Multiphase Flow Simulator

Invensys Operations Management has introduced a new interface that improves multiphase flow simulation in subsea applications and enhances design, control system checkout and operator training. The new solution links OLGA®, SPT Group’s simulator for modeling and simulating the flow of oil, water and gas in wells, pipelines and receiving facilities, with Invensys Operations Management’s SimSci-Esscor DYNSIM® simulation program to help engineers more easily model integrated operations of subsea production systems and topside processing facilities, such as platforms, FPSOs, onshore plants and new floating LNG plants. The solution can also be used to test and model the plant’s integrated process and control systems, reducing control system commissioning time, as well as to develop and train control room operators.

“As part of our dynamic simulation engineering and operator training simulator platform, the new interface includes improved numerical integration, easy-to-use, drag-and-drop configuration and the ability to view dynamic profiles of key parameters of the OLGA pipeline model from within the DYNSIM program,” said Tobias Scheele, VP Advanced Applications, Invensys Operations Management. “It’s another example of a successful cooperation between two leading companies.”

Invensys and SPT also plan to integrate the DYNSIM simulation program under SPT Group’s edpm® online solution, which enables high-quality modeling for online monitoring and advisory of integrated multiphase production and processing facilities.

edpm is rapidly becoming the industry standard for multiphase dynamic production management systems. Using OLGA in an online environment, edpm provides operators and engineers with information from parts of the production system that instrumentation cannot reach. This allows the deployment of advanced operation advisors for solving defined flow assurance problems. An open structure gives ready access to third party software developers and operators, enabling further innovations and connectivity.

Currently edpm is used on 20 projects around the world, ranging from gas-condensate and deepwater oil systems to advanced drilling operations, to optimize production and reduce costs. OLGA has been used in more than 30 operator training simulator projects worldwide
