Invensys Operations Management has signed a five-year, multi-million dollar contract to supply a comprehensive operator training, process design and operation optimization solution to Malaysia LNG Tiga Sdn Bhd (MLNG Tiga). This is the third liquid natural gas (LNG) plant located within the Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia. The Petronas LNG Complex is the world’s largest integrated LNG production facility with three plants at a single location, with a total of eight production trains and a combined capacity of nearly 23 million tons per annum. The integrated operations of the three plants, supported by a current fleet of 13 LNG tankers and with additional six vessels under construction, will enhance Malaysia’s LNG supply flexibility and reliability.

Under the terms of the contract, Invensys will provide SimSci-Esscor operator training simulator (OTS) technology to train MLNG Tiga’s processing plant operators during startup and shutdown of LNG trains. Besides facilitating process design, optimizing operation processes and diagnosing equipment operation, the solution also allows for safe and rapid evaluation of operational procedures. The virtual environment created results in greater plant safety awareness, productivity and efficiency.

“We are glad to have selected Invensys as our strategic partner. The customized simulation solution encompassing Dynsim LNG modeling technology and Foxboro® I/A Series simulation technology will result in significant time savings during startup. Most importantly, we are assured of a safe platform of experimentation before implementing process changes,” said Mohd Hatta Abu Bakar, head of OPS Capability Development, MLNG.

“We are pleased to enter into this strategic relationship with MLNG to help optimize plant performance and drive bottom-line performance,” said Terence Chan, Managing Director, Invensys Operations Management, ASEAN, Taiwan and Japan. “We will utilize an integrated solution that combines our deep industry knowledge, the world’s leading OTS technology, integrated solutions capabilities, global presence and technology transfer programs that will help optimize MLNG Tiga’s performance and plant processes.”
