Real-Time Operations TIG at SPE Annual Meeting

I attended the RTO TIG on Wed pm at the Society of Petroleum Engineers annual meeting in New Orleans, which is considering switching from being a Technical Interest Group to becoming a subcommittee of the Digital Energy Technical Section. The consensus was that we need to have some kind of digital energy-related conference (1 day) in Houston in 2010 because both Intelligent Energy and SPE ATCE will be in Europe, with nothing filling the gap in North America. Several case studies of successful implementations of RTO technology were shared by Shell, Merrick Systems, Intelligent Agent Corp and Perfomix. The group agreed that some kind of study compiling positive RTO results needs to be done to document a compelling business case. Roger Hite is going to put links to RTO-related SPE papers on the TIG website, and I’m going to see if I can get some kind of Petroleum Abstracts literature search done to compile success stories for a possible paper to be presented at 2010 Houston conference described above.
